Tetris
Tetris was created by Soviet software engineer Alexey Pajitnov and first released on 6 June 1984 on the Electronika 60 computer in Moscow. Its name blends tetra — the Greek prefix for four, reflecting each piece's four squares — with tennis, Pajitnov's favourite sport.
It became one of the best-selling video games of all time, reaching a worldwide audience after Nintendo bundled it with the Game Boy in 1989. Simple to learn but endlessly challenging, Tetris has been ported to more platforms than any other game in history.
